Maybe there was speculation that the dock had some hardware inside. Th article emphasizes it's very basic to make it cheap to manufacture.
I think that came up when it was announced?
It would make sense. The handheld display is only 720p, it should only be working as hard as it needs to to save battery.

Selling creative control of a company someone built up from five dudes in a basement is usually not done because they have a big rosy outlook ahead of them, unless they're just trying to cash out. A lot of those companies unfortunately didn't have much life left in them as a solo entity, for better or worse. Even the fairly recent loss of Criterion and Burnout still stings, but here we are. I also would've liked to see their take on F-Zero.
Yeah basically. There was speculation of the Dock having an external GPU to booster power when connected to the tv, or that the CPU/GPU clocks were higher when docked. So the later is confirmed. If you look at the system in the video, it looks like it has exhaust vents at the top and 2 big intake ones on the bottom. It's been basically confirmed that the Switch tablet piece has a fan in it (if this runs at all while in handheld mode is any one's guess) this basically confirms that it definitely runs when docked. My guess too is that the big intakes probably line up to ports on the dock, since that supposedly has a fan as well. Which would mean for a lot of air blowing through it. Which also lines up with the early rumors that initial dev kits had a good amount of active cooling going on.
There was also talk about at the upcoming Press show, that people could take the switch to couches and didn't have to return the units to the same tvs/docks. That the dock doesn't pair with the handheld unit, and is just a cooling/USB-C connection for the power and HDMI out. Supposedly Nintendo plans on selling Docks separately so you can theoretically have one for each tv in your home, or wherever. Could be big for kids, have your switch and dock at home, and then a dock at each grand parents house.
The same person who leaked that also mentioned that From Software has Dark Souls 3 running really well on the Switch. Supposedly they're considering a release of it, or pack of all 3 games. The rumor states they're waiting to see how it does.
This also confirms what I was saying a long while back when discussing the Hybrid system. IE when it's in console mode it runs at a higher clockspeed, and the games play at a higher resolution, and then when in handheld mode they lower the res, and the clock speeds.
*edit*
Also looks like GC VC is coming to the Switch

Also rumors that supposedly VC in general is getting a huge overhaul and improvement for Switch.

The VC needs a huge improvement like we all need a raise. It is long overdue.
Can Nintendo hire M2 to do it?
Supposedly NERD (Nintendo European Research and Development) is doing it. They're the ones behind the NES Classic, along with (stolen from NeoGaf)
Supposedly there is also going to be an upgrade program, I guess like they had on Wii U, where you can upgrade a previous bought VC title to the Switch for a significantly lower price.Mobiclip video codec as used on GBA/DS/3DS/Wii/Wii U.
The Wii U web browser media player.
DS Emulator for Wii U (which supports 2x native resolution rendering).
Stable stereoscopic 3D on the New 3DS.
Wii VC games on Wii U.
If they handled the U's VC games hopefully it will be more like SNES and less like the horrible NES VC.
