Thread: Nintendo Switch / Nintendo Switch Lite (Official Thread)

  1. I still want that VMU MP3 player that Sega demoed at some show.

If we're talking about exclusives (games I can't play on a PC), the Wii U holds up quite well. PS4 has the edge and will easily run up the tally due to a longer life, of course. Xbone seems like the most unnecessary of the three. At least the controller is useful.

I dunno, indications are that we're going to be seeing a good handful of enhanced ports of Wii U games to pad out the Switch's launch. I fully expect that Wii U will no longer have definitive versions of Smash, Mario Kart 8, or Splatoon. Hyrule Warriors XL and a new iteration of Mario Maker seem likely, too.

But I don't blame Nintendo for going that route. They've always had a problem with dead space around the launch window, and if the Switch is a success then there's definitely going to be a good base of people there that never played these games. Plus the usual Nintendo stans will still rebuy them, however begrudgingly.

Oh, hell no! It'll be more like the Gamecube.

The DC is pretty much an enthusiast gamer's console. It still has games being made for it today.

That second sentence sums up my view of just about every non-mainline Playstation Sony device.

The Dreamcast was an immediate sales success at launch and it was state of the art for about a year, and then it hung in there for another year against the PS2, during which time a shitload of first and third party games got released, and then it got unceremoniously sent to an early grave.
The Wii U was underpowered right from the start and has languished for 4 years with very few third party games.
Both systems came in white and black and had underused screens on their bulky controllers, though.
To me it was more about it being a system that the mainstream mostly ignored, and had a rock solid library. One that didn't sell a ton, so in 10 years when everyone finally realizes there were good games there, they're not going to be as available and command a decent price.

I like the DC enough but I rather play Super Mario 3D World than any DC game.

My gut says no, but the distribution of time spent playing the two choices over the past couple years says yes.
