Amazingly bad umpiring. But the Jays did it to themselves this game. Plenty of chances to not swing for the fences and chose try and out Joe Carter Joe Carter.
But that dude was out at second.
Also I guess I gotta stop being mad at that dude who stuck his elbow out to get hit by a pitch to ruin a perfect game now.
Jacob deGrom is a wonderful pitcher. He and Kershaw had a damn fine pitchers duel last night. Murphy with a homer and David Wright with a clutch hit in the 7th and the Mets come away with an awesome win in LA. Lets go Thor!!!!!!
This loss is on Don Mattingly, yet again. Wright looked clueless against Kershaw most of the night (with the exception of the 12 pitch at bat in the first), and even a tired Kershaw is much nastier to face than Pedro Baez and his ONE pitch. Even if you take Kershaw out in that situation, you need to put your most elite reliever in during that situation....you need to put your set up man, or even your fucking closer in during that situation....shut them down and keep it a one run game. Instead, Mattingly brings in Baez, who only pitches fastballs. So, all Wright had to do was time the fastball because he knew what was coming. One of the most jarring issues about that situation too, was Mattingly was faced with the EXACT same type of situation against the Cardinals last year and he brought in Baez to get roped around then as well. During the regular season Baez seemingly doesn't know the concept of not letting an inherited runner score either. Mattingly making the same wrong decision over and over again is the very definition of insanity.
Also, I completely don't understand why Joc Pederson started over Kike Hernandez. Pederson has been struggling mightily since the All-Star break, and he essentially lost his job to Kike over the last few weeks of the season. Kike gives the Dodgers the best chance to win right now, and instead Mattingly wanted to play match ups....even if it meant putting a .210 hitter in there who strikes out seemingly 75% of the time. Right now, Joc should be relegated to a pinch hit option, and a late inning defensive replacement.
I'm going to the game today, so hopefully Greinke will be able to shut the Mets down to even the series.
Wright's first at bat was tremendous. I was really impressed with that. I also don't know why Mattingly brought in Baez, as Kershaw seemed to be doing fine. But I think the Mets had the upper hand in that game in general.
EDIT - I also think the Mets had the upper hand most of the game, but there is no denying the fact that if the Dodgers kept the score 1-0 in the top of the inning, then the Dodgers would have tied the game in the bottom of the inning. From there, it's a whole new ball game.
