    Console Shmups with Tate Mode

For the first time, I'll finally have the ability to play games in tate mode soon, but I can't find a good list of console games that support it. Does anyone know a list somewhere online or know of a few games off the top of their head? I'll start building a list like we did for the 2D games. I'm interested in basically all CD or DVD-based consoles.

I can't believe I missed that Saturn list over there. Thank you! I'll start compiling.

  4. In general most ports from Saturn/ PS1 on have proper arcade modes. Some of the US releases cut them out, but for the most part the Japanese have them.

Since I am too lazy to check at the moment, does anyone know if the Capcom Classics Collections support it where appropriate? How about the Taito Legends games?

  6. PS1

    Strikers 1945
    Strikers 1945 II
    Raiden DX
    DDP

All japanese. I think Raiden Project for PS1 has tate in the Jap release but not in the US, but I'm not sure.

  7. Yosh, what are you planning to display your games on? I had the thought on buying a monitor from benq, but I have to find out how lag-free the games are (street fighter on analog) and Nick still hasn't got back to me on that.

I'm running them through an XRGB 2+ on an HDTV, so they are lag free. I have my Saturn, PS2, and Dreamcast hooked to it right now.

Raiden Project US supports a tate mode with flipped controls. The non flipped controls can only be accessed by using a cheat device with the US version, but can be accessed in the Japanese version without a cheat device. The US Taito Legends 1/2 and the PS2 Capcom Classics packs do not support tate. The US Saturn version of Layer Section/Rayforce, Galactic Attack, supports both tate and yoko tate (tate with flipped controls).

  10. PS2: XII Stag

    Saturn: Skull Fang

Also, I believe that it is Capcom Generations 4 that has Commando, Gun Smoke, and Mercs. Capcom Generations 3 should also be included for Exed Exes and Vulgus.
