Thread: Baltimore: Implosion Central

  1. I would like to see the answers to those questions?

I appreciate Yoshi's meme Democrats are to blame, and they do a fine job of getting minority votes with nothing in exchange, but this is a broader problem.

Want to know what's wrong with Baltimore? Drugs. Well, not so much drugs as the war on drugs. Cops in Baltimore make street level arrests because politicians like numbers tho show that they're tough on crime. Cops make street level arrests because you get overtime pay for court work. These cops show new cops how to be shitty cops, the cycle continues for 30 years, and et voilą... welcome to Baltimore. Welcome to a city where even white people don't trust the police force.

Yes, this is touched on in the wire. Deal with it.

  3. I don't think unions have the political sway Yoshi thinks they do. The New Deal was a really long time ago, man.

The fact that unions still exist shows they have more sway than you may think they do. People go on strike to get $0.25 more an hour even if that will never pay for itself. That requires sway.

There aren't enough of those older black women, one of whom pulled her dumbass son off the street, and one of whom told protestors they needed to be smarter than that. Young black men seem to listen to the important women in their lives, be they mothers or grandmothers. A voice of reason could do a lot.

There are voices of reason. They're currently re-building Baltimore's neighborhoods, and you'll never hear about them.

I work at a place with a union and it sucks. Raises, promotions, any kind of advancement is a matter of waiting.
