    If I'm not mistaken this is internal id Software. It's been in development hell for many years now, at one point being scrapped and started over entirely.

  9. Carmack's a tech guy, not a design guy so his departure was probably not the big factor. From what I understand they were just really struggling to find a creative direction that was actually fun. That's all ancient history now, though. Hopefully they're on the right track now.
