2001: A Space Odyssey has all kinds of cool stuff going on, like an Arthur C Clarke interview and NASA's Voyager I and II Jupiter flyby simulation renders. Better sound, better transfer, and I believe a lot of those early WB DVDs were just (badly) compressing the laserdisc master on a disc and calling it a day.
They got better of course, but almost to a number the first few years of DVD releases are stomped on by the LDs.
