In other news, I'm finding that the Criterion LD's seem to have quite a bit of stuff that never transferred over to DVD, worst offenders being the first-run cardboard case Warner Bros stuff.

2001: A Space Odyssey has all kinds of cool stuff going on, like an Arthur C Clarke interview and NASA's Voyager I and II Jupiter flyby simulation renders. Better sound, better transfer, and I believe a lot of those early WB DVDs were just (badly) compressing the laserdisc master on a disc and calling it a day.

They got better of course, but almost to a number the first few years of DVD releases are stomped on by the LDs.

Gee, sounds like a lot of the early Bluray shit in relation to DVD.

I still don't like the JavaScript menus on BluRay movies, so weak. Can't argue with the AV quality though!

On the other hand, certain pre-2000s movies just look wrong remastered and spotless. Cleaned up Star Wars is disgusting, above and beyond the dumb changes.

The last of the "Donation Haul" came in today, excellent excellent: The Criterion CAV version of Robocop! Took a while, had to return a CLV copy a seller mislabeled.
