Why wouldn't they want to admit that?
I like can spend under seven or eight bucks on a Criterion LD and I know I'm getting something worthwhile out of it that I probably haven't seen, pretty good ROI on this little hobby so far.
i think price is a bigger decider in collecting that people want to admit. One of the things I love about records is often times I can buy a huge pile for below 20 bucks. And then I can spend an evening just listening to new things I've never heard before. If it doesn't pan out, whatever, you wasted 10 or 25 cents. Thats the price of gum. If you strike gold, holy shit, you hit gold!

Because in many circles being frugal is something you don't do unless you have to.
People want to look like they're in the know, or hip, or into something secret.
They don't want to admit that they are entertaining themselves on a budget.
That and they don't want the secret getting out and the price to go up. I hate place that want $5 to $10 for $1 used records.
I'm proud to admit I collect laserdisc because I'm a cheap bastard and most of my movies cost pocket change.
Are you suggesting that you're on time for the party?
