whats a good player these days for backing up laserdisks to pc? I think you still have to use a analog to digital dongle because laserdisks are not true digital, correct?
I never understood why BluRay adopted the Chinese bootleg DVD aesthetic from word-go, but here we are.

Depends on how far down the rabbit hole you want to go. Any 90's pioneer or Panasonic player will give you a reasonably good quality out of the composite jack, as long it's paired with something that has a good comb filter. With the right software and capture device I've heard the PC can crush even expensive video processors, but I'd have to look up to see exactly what the people who know recommend.
A quick and dirty method would be to use a DVD recorder with a good comb filter like the Panasonic DMR-E15 and make a DVD with it, then rip the DVD.
A quicker and cheaper method would be to download them off of the internet.
I'm not interested in ripping goddamn anything, but if Cheeks gets a setup together and wants to take a crack at the Chronological Godfather I don't mind loaning it.
