Thread: The Next Level arcade (NYC) to close in 2016

  1. Uh-oh The Next Level arcade (NYC) to close in 2016

    Story at shoryuken.com

The Next Level, that arcade in NYC which focused on fighters, is going to shut its doors in February.

    My thoughts? This would suck.

  2. My thoughts? Lucky they lasted this long.

  3. What is an arcade?

  4. Can't remember the last time I saw an arcade machine and I live in damn NYC. lol

  5. Isn't that where sp00ky streams weekly tournaments from?

  6. Not for too much longer.

  7. I was hoping arcades would enjoy some of the retro resurgence but that didn't really pan out.

  8. This just isn't the world we live in anymore.
    Boo, Hiss.

If the retro resurgence were about actually playing videogames, maybe it would have panned out. Bummer.

My local Round1 has plenty of iphone shit that's, uh, retrofitted to arcade cabinets. I see more people playing the music games and fighters than those things, though. Another nearby old-school old-game arcade is still doing well for itself too, and that's despite roughly half of their machines being abused and worn to the point of uselessness.

Gold is where you find it.
