I haven't been able to connect since I caught a magickarp on the bus and the game froze.

Failed to get player information from server is the name of the game.

I also like it when it loads like this.

  4. I played Ingress ages ago when I first got a smart phone. It gets boring as hell really fast.
    Where I play

  5. It's been working fine for me, thankfully. I had one time where it loaded no info and a restart of the program fixed it.

It does suck that this thing hates rural areas, as while where I work is loaded and can make infinite pokeballs and I can drive to nearby places with a lot going on there's almost nothing within walking distance of my house. Probably doesn't help that I live in an area with lots of couples that have no kids. I'm also a little worried that as they unveil how to collect the big ones it's going to be nearly impossible for me due to my work schedule.

But aside from that this thing is a pretty cool outdoorsy hunting game. Better than an actual Pokemon game, for what that's worth.

  6. My friends asked if I wanted to go looking for stops in downtown Long Beach yesterday. Said sure, and we walked along the blocks butted up against the beach, finding stuff, seeing a museum that's a gym, and it was fine...

Then, we saw someone dropped a lure at the beach, by a lifeguard HQ. There were easily 12-15 people there, all having a good time, talking about when they played the original (a lot of them never played more than the original), getting excited about pokemon that showed up. It was incredibly more social and relaxed than you'd assume a bunch of 'socially awkward nerds' would pull off, but there it is.

Some were all the way from North Hollywood and Glendale (it's a trek), saying that LB seemed busy but easy to get stuff and take Gyms. Said it's a far different story in LA, where some people with an abundance of time have locked down Gyms with super high level creatures.

It was surreal - before that I just thought this would be a shitty app I'd get bored of. Too many glitches, really bad UI...it feels like an unlicensed knock-off. But being around people who were just having fun, all being in on the same thing at the same time? That was really cool, and not something games seem to do often, or well. Who knows if that keeps up but for now, I'm just gonna enjoy it.

The Law & Order: SVU episode for this nonsense writes itself.

  8. "They lured him in with promises of easy Pokemon but the result... was MURDER!"

Maybe they can track the killer by having two agents type on the keyboard at the same time.

  9. Sure to fill Yoshi with the right amount of perverse joy:

Joy? It's terrible yet predictable. I know "victim blaming" is out of style, but common sense seems to have gone with it.
