Yeah, that's just like it was in the theater and the first dvd release. All subsequent releases had the tint to match the sequels.

I'm going in with a friend on a different stack of movies that has another copy of Matrix, I think that one's $10 or something? This one was $2.
There's something to be said for knowing what you're looking at in any hobby.
"The White Whale" for me right now is The Iron Giant, one of the last US discs, always goes for really stupid money. I'm holding out for <$20 if I can find it. I seem to be having fine luck with just looking for specific stuff in shops and having it pop up, I'm betting I can trip over that one too.
