I used to know a lot of published writers, and this is very true. Only a couple out of dozens actually live in their writing income.

Go read David Burn's book "how music works" It'll explain how money is made in the current age of music. Great book and inspiring if you find the music industry fascinating or would just like to know how to work the industry.
