Open world games need to copy Fallout for fast travel. Fast travel instantly to any place you have discovered.
You can fast travel, but you have to unlock it. And it's not universal. Your campsite gets a map you can fast travel FROM, but I have yet to discover a way to fast travel anywhere outside of camp other than catching a train.

Korly-"Everyone here is an asshole, SURPRISE!"
This is a really strange game, and not at all what I was expecting. I thought it would be a fun open-world action adventure, but it's like a Western version of Shenmue, a super-detailed life simulator with ponderous and awkward controls and almost no interest in existing game convention or indeed fun.
And mind you this is not an indictment of the game, because, like Shenmue, it's so clearly extraordinary and immersive and unlike anything else out there. But it is not at all what I was expecting.
Shenmue comparisons make me want to buy it. I assumed this was just a prettier version of the first game. I probably mentioned this several pages back but I lost interest in the first game after several hours because the missions had no challenge at all. Is RDR2 more difficult? A lot of people hate sim elements in action games but I like when it I'm forced to strategize to survive. It sounds like there's some of that.
What an odd game this is. I'm walking around with 900lbs of whiskey and opened beans in my satchel, but I can't have 2 hides on a horse.
Wandered across some kind of serial killer scene - so there's that.
Boo, Hiss.
Difficulty is sort of a weird question in this one because the game is so dynamic it can feel a bit arbitrary at times. Like maybe one time you're on a mission and a bear comes out from nowhere and eats your face, or a rival gang happens to be passing through and jumps you. Meanwhile some of the missions amount to little more than go here and then there. Challenge and contrived sort of "mission design" seems to take a backseat to sandbox stuff and storytelling.
The whole thing is just not very "gamey" for lack of a better term. It's extremely slow paced, and realism/immersion focused. It's nothing like a normal AAA open world game.
I can't compare it to the first, I never played it.
I escorted a damsel in distress back to her home and it took me 10 actual minutes of my life to get back to my camp.
I'm not sure I can play the rest of this game. I get the artistic choice, but it's just not very, y'know, 'fun'.
Boo, Hiss.
Shenmue comparison made me not want to play this. I get the love for the series but it was boring to me, and I don't mind tedious shit like JRPG exp grinding.
