And they hit it pretty well. There are even some goofy polygonal artifacts in the rare cases they're used in backgrounds. The only things up for debate are performance-related and the copious real alpha effects but that's for the best.

Thankfully, they went with the Genesis style and didn't use the Sonic 3D Blast aesthetic. That game didn't look that good, even on the Saturn.

Someone fit the entire intro onto a Genesis cartridge. It works with emulators, but it hasn't been confirmed if it works on real hardware.

I just downloaded the file and ran it on my Mega Everdrive. You have to adjust the frame delay, but it runs fine. I'll bet this guy will have sound pretty soon.
