Thread: Stupid Collections - Office Equipment

  1. PC Stupid Collections - Office Equipment

So, I found a 1953 Smith Corona typewriter with case & key in Very Good and working condition for dumb cheap ($45).
Then, I bought a matching adding machine from the same company & era for $10 on eBay!
Then, I decided these functioning typewriters are incredibly cheap for an old ass working machine and I want one from each decade 1920 to 1950, then electrics in 1960 & 1970, and then for 1980 an Apple II PC.

    My questions to TNL:

Does anyone have 80's PC shit?
What is the definitive 80's PC?
Besides the Office Suite, what would be the essential software?
What 5 games would you load on it?

  2. I would say either Commodore 64 or Apple IIe, but I suppose it depends on where you're from. British people always talk about the Spectrum or some shit.

  3. Amiga. I've still got a bunch of that crap around.
I like the old Commodore calculators.

My parents still have our Apple IIgs with the monitor, disk drives, etc. in the original boxes in their basement. I think the games are still around too. I can't say they're the best five, but I know we had Batman, Ghostbusters, Mean 18 (Golf), Epyx Summer Olympic Games, and a baseball and football by the same company whose names I can't recall.

  6. Boxes? Ghostbusters?? If it's all working, have them name me a price. I've seen anything from $200 to $2,000 on eBay. But I'd rather buy from one of you guys. There's no rush too just when you or them have time to dig it out.

Get a Commodore 64 rig to satisfy your hipster need for useless junk, then plug a NES into the monitor so at least one part of it is useful.

  8. I know a good amount about typewriters, but not too much about general 80s PCs. I'd love to have a collection though, it seems like something worth having.

  9. The '53 Corona Sterling 5A. I wrote all six of my actors a thank you/pay letter on it. It was fun! I even got the "touch" set at the perfect resistance now.

  10. I've been giving some real thought to getting a typewriter too. I have a hard time with 1, dicking around on the internet when writing and 2, revising and revising and revising each sentence as I write it rather than just getting it down and writing a proper draft, a draining and unproductive way to write. I'd love some recommendations!
