I've been thinking about picking up one of those Chinese knockoffs of the Everdrive for the Genesis.

You need to be careful with those. Trying to run actual everdrive firmware on them will brick them. Honestly you'd be better off buying one of the cheaper official Mega Everdrives. You can get the Mega Everdrive X3 for 50 bucks and it does more things, and has better specs than the Chinese knockoffs.
