I think the electoral collage is fine as it is. It gives each state more or less an equal place on the voting table. Popular voting would just make some states like CA control election results all the time and it wouldn't really be that fair. Generally this last election was a total joke to me. It wasn't so much the politics but who could be the bigger asshole.
I just tuned out the whole mess when I realized it was a pissing contest.

Speaking of ratios and such, I was reading something about U.S. Senators. In some number of years, a vast majority of the populace will live in/near a couple of big cities in only a few states. This means that something along the lines of 30-35 Senators will be chosen by older, more conservative people.
It's certainly to the benefit of Republicans to keep things as they are with regard to our voting. It should be right up their alley since they only want to keep trying old solutions to fix new problems anyway.
