I think I understand where you're coming from, but at the same time isn't he also like the only person at that level of media calling out how bent shit like Yemen is, and the only other way to do that honestly is to strongly undermine the real neoliberalist agendas of Obama, Clinton, etc, which gives credence to the Trump crowd? Religion is easier to target than economic stratification, and the worst of both thrive together.

Don't drink the Kool-Aid. A lot of any Western perception of Buddhism is highly informed by a very successful and modern brand of propaganda. While it may not be writ large in canon (coincidentally, the majority of Buddhists that ever existed were illiterate), Buddhist sectarian violence has historically killed more people than ANY other religious conflicts have.
But Buddhism has varied a lot over millenia and geography. Just like Christianity and Islam, and everything else. And gets shittier the worse things are for people.
