Ukraine submitted a public statement for Trump's camp to review, and were days away from a press conference announcing bogus investigations (it's unclear that anyone actually wanted real investigations to follow; they likely knew there was nothing of merit there). Then, the next day, the whistleblower report was filed and they backed down on the pressure. Two days after that, they released the aid.

Essentially, they got caught with their hand in the cookie jar, and their defense was that they hadn't removed the cookie yet.

Right but this isn't the really real world any more. None of that matters.

Also, get this straight: He doesn't care about an investigation into the Bidens. He's chasing a trail. Burisma/etc. is code language for the real favor he wants done.

He doesn't want an investigation per se, but he definitely wants an *announcement* of an investigation. That veil of legitimacy would give the green light to his party to start up their own bottomless pit of investigations that they'll never ever let up on, no matter how thoroughly refuted the allegations are, and their incessant water-muddying will likely play depressingly well with independents. All that seems unnecessary. Trump won partly because Comey announced the re-opening of the investigation into Clinton's email servers. Not that he concluded wrongdoing. The mere fact that someone is under investigation is enough to harm them politically. To follow through with actual evidence is just messy and pointless, not to mention fairly impossible in cases as far fetched as these. The crowdstrike one doesn't even make sense and is predicated on the belief that a Russian-American who immigrated here at age 5 is secretly actually a Ukrainian double agent. It's just gibberish.

Not really. Being under investigation only hurts the left because the left still believes in the prestige and authority of the government. The right has pulled some sort of double speak and con on their voters. They have been told that the government is a useless pile of shit. Every last one and any investigation is an extension of that wretchedness. "Oh they are investigating? Well it's nothing and a waste of your money because the government is a horrible stupid broken (except for your team, nudge nudge wink wink oh buddy oh pal of mine)"

The right has a powerful and well organized information bubble that is difficult to separate from the party itself, for sure.

But my point is that in this case, the announcement of a Biden investigation is good enough, and Trump could continue to just baselessly insinuate bullshit and have it look more legitimate. |

In fact, even now it's sort of worked. The mention of possible/aborted investigations has a lot of people talking like Biden is guilty of something. Fox News is running daily stories about the Bidens to try to make this all look legit.

The absence of evidence is immaterial to their base, anything that extends the narrative that there's an ongoing investigation is gravy, no matter what the actual findings are. Plus they'll get to throw lots of taxpayer money down the toilet in the process, and they love that shit!

Yup. You elect a party that campaigns on the idea that government is broken and useless, they ain't gonna march in and disprove their thesis.

It's such an obvious con. Its branding. Its sports think.

It's like if we some how convinced sports fans that every team in the NFL is absolutely horrible. Except for yours. And if someone on your team is horrible, they should get a free pass because somebody on some other team was horrible in the same way 35 years ago.

They suck. My guys rock. And if my guys suck, it doesn't matter.

What a stupid obnoxious way to live. How does the skull not collapse from the vacuum?

  10. Wrong. People don’t like it when their players suck. They boo loudly and call for their trade. There’s a whole nomenclature around insulting players too. No one says Tom Brady sucks. They say “Fuck Tom Brady.” because he’s annoyingly good.
