Thread: SSL Certificate

  1. SSL Certificate

My browser is giving me the following error with regards to the cert:

the-nextlevel.com uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is only valid for the following names: main.the-nextlevel.com, www.main.the-nextlevel.com Error code: SSL_ERROR_BAD_CERT_DOMAIN

Does the cer need to be re-signed/issued with the correct domain name/s?

  2. Did the site ever have a certificate? I feel like I brought it up at some point and someone (cka, perhaps?) informed me we don't have one or care to have one. What's linking here that's using https?

  3. Nothing. When I go through the login the browser complains.

  4. you can safely ignore that warning, it has nothing to do with the day to day functions of this forums

  5. Why wouldn't we care to?

  6. already considered it, unless something changed it straight up doesn't work with the management software

  7. LetsEncrypt works great on VPS or dedicated machines. On shared hosting, the question is whether the host updates cPanel/WHM and whether they allow you to install the plugin or install it for you. In most cases, that's a strikeout.

If vBulletin wasn't a gigantic pile of messy code with security holes I'd host this site for free on one of my VPSes.

  8. There are browser clients for Let's Encrypt as well which will absolutely put a certificate in your hands, it's just a bit of a pain keeping it up to date.

    etc.
