A federal judge blocked Dallas Cowboys star Ezekiel Elliott's six-game suspension over a domestic violence case Friday, setting the stage for a potentially lengthy legal fight with the NFL.

Last year's league rushing leader was already cleared to play in the opener against the New York Giants on Sunday night before the ruling by U.S. District Judge Amos Mazzant. It's uncertain whether an NFL appeal can get the suspension reinstated this season.

Mazzant agreed with players' union lawyers that Elliott didn't receive a "fundamentally fair" hearing in his appeal and he granted the NFL Players' Association request for a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction blocking the league's punishment.

Please note this is after the NFL spent a year investigating this and totally revamping their policies after the disastrous Ray Rice thing. This is why the NFL as a LE agency has always been a fundamentally bad idea. Nobody expected Tagliabue or Rozelle to police player behavior like this, but now it is not just expected but something the NFL literally cannot do right. Goodell opened up a pandora's box he won't be able to close.

The problem with Goodell's decision was that they didn't even bother to listen to the person from the NFL investigation team that interviewed Tiffany Thompson. Like the Ohio investigation team, the interviewer of Thompson felt that her story was full of holes that led her to believe that Thompson wasn't being truthful in her testimony. Goodell made a decision that was not based on actual findings from the investigation team.

His handling of Deflate Gate and Bounty Gate were a joke.
