Thread: Next Nvidia GeForce series is RTX 2080. Not GTX 1180.

Just that, & 2080's performance gain is not nearly impressive enough to justify the price jump. The GTX 1080 Ti actually held up all too well against a 2080 Ti on some of the benchmarks on the video in gamevet's post. Not impressed when the card costs $800-1200.

The 1080 Ti matched the performance of the RTX 2080, while the 2080 Ti was somewhere between 25-30% better, but nearly $400 more. There's no need for the use of DLSS on a PC paired with a monitor under 32" at a resolution of 1440p or 4K, because the pixel density would have very little aliasing. It would be better suited for someone connecting their PC to a 60" 4K display. I pretty much use FXAA @1440p, because there is very little aliasing on a 27" display.

Here's good review from Digital Foundry.

  3. The prices for the announced cards is as follows:
    Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Ti: $1,199 (£1,099, AU$1,899)
    Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080: $799 (£749, AU$1,199)
    Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070: $599 (£569, AU$899)

  4. You’re about a month late!

  5. It's not like we didn't know these prices already. So, mind telling us something new?

  6. $2500? For that price it better have 2.5x the power of a 2080Ti FE, & that doesn't seem to be the deal here. Sure, there is 24 GB of VRAM but that is overkill for games.
Wait... WHAT? The 2080 Ti FE just beat the TRTX at Far Cry 5 in 4K?

Yeaah no. Looking 2 years ahead, I'd bet a 2180 Ti will probably be ahead of this in performance if not VRAM & come in at about half or less the price.
That Battlefield V comparison is underwhelming when you consider that $1300 gap in price. You could build a good gaming computer with a 2080 Ti FE for that.

  7. So, the RTX 2060 has launched, and it's pretty impressive for the price.

  8. Here's a demo of Quake II with RTX used for some nice effects on barrel explosions, the BFG, lighting, reflections, & glass. More than a little impressed, but I'll still wait for the next RTX cards (2180? 3080?).

  9. I might get a RTX 2060 for my living room rig. It's hooked up to a 1080p display, that will probably be the ideal setup for Ray Tracing. I'm definitely not going to try running it on my 1440p/144Hz display on my main rig.
