Thread: What's the best/most reliable USB storage option for the Wii U?

  1. #11
I got these today. No idea if they work with the wiiu, though I can probably test them when they arrive.

Got them for video and image backup.

  2. I had a long talk with a friend of mine and he dug in a bit further. The Wii U's max storage allowance is 2 TB max. The system won't see anything past that.

Also the Wii U uses what he said is a 32 bit bus which means he said that the drive you'll want is nothing over USB 2.0. My 1 TB Drive is a 3.0 which is what was causing the issue. A separate power source is also suggested as well. Did a bit of digging and this helped a ton

This faq answered some more questions as well.

  3. I guess you can use that old external drive with your new PC.

I doubt you’ll be able to just copy your files over to a new drive, the way these consoles lock everything down.

  4. You could just buy a cheap USB 2.0 enclosure and put the HDD in that.

  5. Yeah I already said get a USB 2.0 enclosure.

  6. So you did. It's unanimous.

  7. Well I found this..

    and this...

This should solve any problems. I'll copy over all my updated data to this new drive then format the old one and use it for my PC. Like I told Gamevet when we met in person, there are some titles on the eshop I would 100% suggest going after since yeah, The Switch's shop is sorta there. Super Mario Bros 3 for the Gameboy Advance is one of the major things to me since that version on the eshop has ALL the E-reader content that was released for the game including the exclusive Japan only cards.

Lot of fun content to be had in it.

I might have gave you the wrong info on your old HDD. I started thinking about it and IDE is actually from the late 80s, into the early 90s. I think you might actually have a PATA (Parallel ATA) drive. Did it have a 40 pin ribbon cable?

These were used in computers built in mid 90s, up to around late 2000s, when everyone started using SATA.
