Interpol - Turn on the Bright Lights (i know everyone says they just rip off Joy Division, but I like them a lot more than those guys)
Von Bondies - Pawn Shoppe Heart - otherwise known as "the band with the leader singer who got his ass kicked by Jack White". Still, a good album. Mairead is an awesome track.
Muse - Absolution - Yea, they are a pretty cheesy rip-off of Radiohead, but not bad.
Joy Division - Closer - trying for the 2nd time to get into this band, its not happening.
The Strokes - Room on Fire - whatever, I like it.
Totally understandable. Interpol is definetly trying to create that vive of Joy Division to a degree, but is way more accesiable. Its a shame though that you cannot get into Joy Division, one of my favorite bands. Definetly have to be in the mood though to sit through and listen to the entire album.Originally Posted by diffusionx

Mman, Ive just about given up with JD... it's so gloomy. I think it's the lead singer's voice, actually. Interpol's lead singer has this muddy, ethereal quality to it, that matches up with the soundscape they create. Joy Division is just gloom to me. I dont like it.
As for Interpol, I love it so far. It hits the right nerve... not fun, but not really gloomy or sad or makes me want to shoot myself because of its misery. It's almost like OK Computer, in that it hits that sweet spot. Just a great album.
But I did try. I also am going to check out The Chameleons UK.
1. Pain of Salvation - 12:5 (greatest acoustic album of all time... hands down, no contest)
2. Refused - Shape of Punk to Come
3. Novembre - Arte Novecento
4. As I Lay Dying - Frail World Collapse
5. Porcupine Tree - Signify
The only connection to Radiohead I can hear is that Tom Yorke sounds like a drunk retarded version of Matt Bellamy. They take completely different approaches to music, almost opposite infact (radiohead tries to be experimental and arty, while Muse take a conventional, classical approach). Both are great, but for entirely different reasons.Originally Posted by diffusionx
hell, I'll buy an album if I think I remember someone saying something good about them. My brother used to buy albums due to good cover art. It's so much more rewarding finding out about a great band this way, and you'll be surprised how little shit stuff you actually end up getting.Originally Posted by diffusionx
My next purchase will be "We Are Fuck You" by The Finger, simply because of the name and cover art.
I need to go on a CD run badly. Haven't gone on a big one in around a month, and I've got a shitload of stuff I want to get (my brother moved out, so I have to buy the CD's of his that I liked again).
I agree, I've gotten into some great music just based on recommendations and me buying the album w/o hearing it.
right now...
1.) Edguy - Hellfire Club
2.) HIM - Razorblade Romance
3.) Otyg - Savodingars Boning
4.) Dimmu Borgir - Death Cult Armaegedon
5.) Shadows Fall - The Art of Balance
Ward 21 - Mentally Disturbed
Hieroglyphics - Full Circle
Scientist - Scientist Rids the World of the Curse of the Evil Vampires
Linton Kwesi Johnston - In Concert
Lady Saw - Raw (is it wrong that I like a song titled "life without dick"?)
I like that album a lot. I don't think it's too, too JD-ish, myself. I do hear that Radio Head thing you're talking about, too. There's even a good Smiths ripoff on there. Interpol is one reason I hate Thursday. There's a Joy Division comparison on the cover of Thursday's first album so I figured, yeah, they probably sound like Interpol. They don't; they suck.Originally Posted by diffusionx
I'd go with Substance to try to enjoy them. It's an excellent overview of their short lifespan and has a lot more rockin' on it. Not that you probably want to spend more money on them at this point, though, I guess.Originally Posted by diffusionx
