Thread: Strikers 1945 II: Monkey

  1. Strikers 1945 II: Monkey

In the tradition of all good scorechasers everywhere, i issue a silly challenge. and the rules are:

    1) the game is Strikers 1945 2 on Saturn and PSX
    2) 1 credit scores only, three lives (default)
    3) game must be set to MONKEY difficulty (!)

and now it's interesting - the good players can go for the highest scores, while it's still pretty difficult to everyone participating.

my personal best was 1,478,500 ALL, although i did score 1.5mil once but forgot to put my initials in.

    see? told you

please list score, stage and ship when submitting scores, screenshots not necessary but appreciated if possible... and good luck!

  2. SCORING NOTES
ive been toying with this idea since i visited the strikers 1945 2 boards at anmitsu and noticed that many of the 2-ALL scores commented that they got 1.5mil for a first loop clear score. so i experimented, and got some notes:

    CLEAR BONUS
your clear score is affected by a few factors:

    total enemies killed per level
    total medals collected per level
    time taken to defeat bosses
total clear game medals (the medals next to your records during game clear roll)
    total lives remaining

all these factors affect your clear bonus up to a total bonus of 2 million points.

    MEDALS
the medals in game are your most important score item as they will make up the bulk of your points. they will flash white intermittently and each transition is worth points, from 200 up to 2000. when a gold bar flashes white for a split second is when it's worth it's maximum. it has been speculated that the medals mark a path through the levels, although i need to research that more. also, learn to collect medals in groups (pairs, triples, clusters) for maximum effect, since (with good timing) you can get 2000pt medals from even the largest cluster of medals on screen.

    IN GAME TIPS
    - there are certain points where you can generate extra enemies on a level, usually triggered by quickshot on a large enemy or killing medium enemies fast.
    - learn the timing for when the bosses self destruct and use that to your advantage. most bosses fight you with little drones spawning throughout the battle, and you can use that to your advantage to maximise points.
    - some bosses have side turrets you can milk points from. Rommel's first form is a good culprit for lots of points
    - you can miss up to 12 medals from Cross Sinker's stage if you dont destroy the huge battleships midway through the level properly - turrets first, bridge last

to get up to 1.5mil, you must:
    - finish the game with all lives remaining
    - collect 100% of total medals
    - collect at least 80% of medals at 2000pts value
    - get perfect game clear bonus (best boss time, medal total and enemy kill total)

i need to work on my normal mode though, a paltry 882k on stage 1-7. gunbird 2 is good for chaining practice though, as timing is of the essence to maximise your point scoring. my best was 26 coin chain, although i missed a few trying to keep my chain and myself alive

i'm looking forward to seeing what you can get, since you're more skilled at strikers 2 overall. i just chase scores

  3. OK, I'll bite:

    1,207,800 Ki84 ALL

With a little practice, 1.5 seems very attainable, as I was unaware of the 2000-pt. flash thing. I thought your medal-collecting scores were based on how quickly you scooped em up, but I had doubts about that, as I'd pick up a 1000 followed immediately by a 200.

The other info you posted will also be very helpful. Thanks!

  4. eep, eep!

..how embarrasing, playing a game on monkey level!
Maybe that's why nobody is participating

Yeah, like BioMechanic, I had no idea that the flashing is what determined the gold bonus duh, now it seems so obvious.
This tactic changes everything about playing Strikers and Gunbird, thank's for the know-how, cigsthecat.

    a quick one-time through produced:
    1,358,100 ALL - P38

..looking forward to reaching that 1.5 mark

Who's more skilled at strikers 2 overall?
Looks like you're leading the pack.

  5. Thanks el dodo, but those compliments are actually undeserved. I'm just keeping this warm for felix, hence the reason I don't have a score up there. All the know how came from him. (read the sticky for a complete explanation.) I love this game though, and once I can track down a copy I'll be competing for sure. I've yet to play it outside of an arcade.
Glad to see more participants just the same though.

  6. Hey, I thought cigs & felix were one & the same!! *smacks own forehead*

    Nice avatar, BTW, el dodo.

Also, cigs - ebworld.com has the PSX rev new for $20 + shipping. That's where I got mine...I was also staggered to find new copies @ my local Best Buy a couple weeks ago...gone now though. No tate mode, true, but most of the slowdown is fixed in comparison to the Saturn version.

Still working on 1.5 - timing the 2000 golds is tricky, especially when there's a cluster of em together....

I'm looking for the import, original release on PSone....so it's taking a bit longer. I may have found a way though.

And no TATE mode? For shame!

  8. help me out realy quick. is the first strikers 1945 better on psx or saturn? and both are import only right? ive heard complaints about the neo version.

strikers 1945 II was released in the US as strikers 1945 on psx? how does that one compare to the saturn version. does the saturn version have tate?

basically tell which versions I should get- ive been sleeping on these for too long.

  9. does the saturn version have tate
    the Saturn version has TATE.
..whatever the hell that stands for?!
tilt and turn (on) end ??

  10. According to dog$, "TATE" is a term that was based off the Japanese for "stand." Not sure where the all-caps came from, or if there's any reason for it at all, but... that's all I got.
