Thread: Soul Calibur 2..... yes!(my first impressions)

  1. It's more like VF4 now. Basically when you go into 8wr at just the right time, you'll sidestep a lot further than if you were just walking around. It's definitely a faster sidestep than in just about any other fighter.
If my memory of her has an expiration date, let it be 10,000 years.

Whoo-hoo! Considered me officially excited about something other then the return of Ivy! I always kind of thought the sidestep in SC was a good idea but wasn't actually implemented too well (actually, I thought that about 90% of the game), and I'm glad to hear it works better! The quick-step in VF4 was awesome, damn happy to see it shows in some form in this game.

Does the sidestep still require that stupid double-tapping, or is it actually 8-way run now? There were far too many times in SC when it seemed more like 2-way run...

  3. so...now that it's out...when will we see the GC screens?

  4. It's actually 8wr now. You tap any direction to go into 8wr (except forward and backwards obviously). To guard you now need to hold G and press down, down-forward or down-back. Jumping is the same as in SC1 (hold G and press...)

  5. The Time Out in my mall got SCII.

On my first play, I went through the game furiously whacking all the characters with Nightmare. Inferno wiped me out after that. A manager at the place then gave it a shot using Maxi. He did fairly decent until Inferno cleaned his clock.

Next time, I returned the favor on Inferno and got a Time Attack record (4'01"41 like that Street Fighter III April Fools' joke in EGM ) which ranked 30th among Nightmare TA players in Namco's IR page at Namco's Japanese site.

I thought the graphics were pretty close to the Dreamcast's quality, while being maybe a bit better in some places. Inferno's stage has some good fire effects. The announcer is a bit better than in SC1- he doesn't seem to be as repetitive.

Their difficulty setting seemed pretty modest- I think this may be for the sake of convincing beginners to try it.

I wasn't there too long today, but I was generally pleased with what I had seen of SCII.

    Finished in 2021: 8 games (PC: 4, PS4: 2, PS3: 1, X1: 1)

  6. Dman, I want to play it!
I'll have to wait for the GC version I guess.

  7. I figured this would be the best place to ask, instead of amking new thread. WTF does Raphaels "stance change" moves do? A+K and B+K. Am I supposed to do that in the middle of someone attacking? Do I do some kind fo move while he does his little sword twirl?

He's quickly becoming one of my favorite character BTW. I like how you can just sit there and toy with someone for a bit, then punish them like crazy. Its fantastic.

  8. Graphically, Tekken 4 looks better. The game looks like a downgrade from SC Dreamcast version.
    ...

Check your eyes. Tekken 4 always looked like crap. Soul Calibur 2 looks wonderful.
    Play Guitar Hero //

  9. Let the Tekken bashing BEGIN!
