Thread: Your favorite special effects creation

  1. Your favorite special effects creation

Post your favorite special effects people and/or creatures.

  2. Dinosaurs in Jurassic Park
    Gollum, Cave Troll in LOTR
    T-2000 in T2
Rick Baker does some of the best make-up, and Stan Winston does the great creature effects.
    pwned by Ivan

  3. We aren't talking just CG, right?

H.R.Gigers work in the Alien movies is the best bar none in my opinion. I don't think a scarier looking creature has ever been created.

  4. Well, It depends if you talking about make-up/prothetics, mechanical, or cgi?

Make up - The Thing still have damn excellent fx work, so does Howling(a full frikin Werewolf transformation, no camera cuts like in American Werewolf), Dead or Alive(Braindead) full on camera zombie grossout fun, many things done by Stan Winston, Rick Baker, Screaming Mad George, KNB studios and other make up teams.

CGI - Starship Troopers(those bugs are still awesome, even 5 years later), Jurasic Park, T2 was revolutionary at that time, Deep Rising and many more.

Nemesis, you make a lot of threads, do ya?

  5. This is a tough one.

    Mines of Moria/Gollum (LOTR)
    The Fly (Cronenberg)
    T-1000 (T2)
    Legend
    Alien
    The Thing
    The Relic
    Dragons in Reign of Fire

    I don't think I can choose a favorite.

    Satoshi Kon: 1963-2010

  6. Damn, How could I forget about Legend and Reign of Fire !!!!

  7. i agree with arjue. the aliens looked fucking amazing, especially the one in part3.

  8. mine are:
Aliens from all the Alien films
    Predator
    Jurrasic Park's Dinosaurs
    The Relic (cathoga)
    T-1000
    Dragons in Reign of Fire
    The Thing
    Draco in Dragon Heart
    The Bugs in Starship Troopers
    Deep Rising's mutated Octopus
Army of Skeletons in Jason in the Argonauts

    People:
Stan Winston is my favorite. But I also like the CG, visual and make-up effects creators your made the the craetures for movies above.

  9. Preditor is awesome.

Personaly, I don't like cg as much as traditional mechanics and make up. It seems like an easy way out, and it often doesn't look as good

  10. That bad ass Gollum for LOTR.
    T-1000
    JP Dinos.
    Bugs from Starship Troopers.
Tom Savini's work in many horror movies (really want to see the unedited version of Friday 6).
Just about any makeup work that Rick Baker has done (can lump Stan Winston here too).
    The Thing
Gremlins. Considering it was done in 1984, it's really really amazing.
