Shmups: Horizontal or Vertical?

Horizontal. They have yet to create a vertical shooter as good as Pulstar, Gradius Gaiden, or R-Type Delta.

For me it's all about vertical

I play horizontal Shmups too, but the tactics and mindset of vertical shoot em ups appeal to me more. (although playing in tate mode is a rare treat for me)

vertical. while i can appreciate a good horizontal game, i really dislike having to avoid the actual environment as well as the bullets. also, in my experience, bullet patterns are generally more interesting in vertical shmups.
