Thread: Buffy for XBOX

  1. January, or December I imagine. The first two were 6 months apart, so I imagine they'll keep coming every 6 months.

  2. I do not like the show, but the game is strong.

  3. Same here. I dont have an affection for the show. But the game, some of which I played was solid and fun action title.

  4. Anyone found any of the secrets?

I can't find the one in the very first level, or, the first one that actually allows you to find secrets (you can find out how many secrets in a level by pausing).

  5. I played it at Korly's last night, and I gotta say, if I had an box this would definetly be one my must have games. Yeah, I like the series so I'm kinda partial to it, but the game is good in it's own right as well.

  6. I beat the first two levels last night and wanted to keep going. Great action game with what seems to be a nice fighting engine. The only thing I dislike are the one-liners given by Buffy everytime she kills someone. At least randomize it so she only speaks after every few vamps. Overall, the game seems like a solid purchase

Anyone know when the game auto-saves ?? Is it at every loading screen, or what ??

  7. I'm pretty sure it auto-saves right before each cutscenes.

Wait till you get to some of the later "controller throwingly difficult" levels like Docks & Dreamers Realm...

Btw, there is unconfirmed rumor regading hidden arena mode in Buffy.
It was reported by "DJAMES" Goddard, formerly of Capcom USA, who produced the Buffy game. According to him (if we can trust him), the exact method to obtain the arena mode will be revealed in the next issue of OXM. The current issue of OXM (not the one that came with Time Splitters 2 demo, but the one after it) is supposed to have some info on it, but I haven't seen it myself yet...

  8. Yep, the OXM has shots of the arena mode and DJAMES says he needs EA's permission to release the code, so it's 99% legit as far as I'm concerned.

Docks wasn't too hard, though the Dreamers Realm was a pain due to the somewhat shoddy jumping / grabbing to ledges setup the game has. Too many instant deaths there, but the game usually avoids cheap tricks like this.

Can't get enough of the fighting in the game though. Just a really amazing fighting system with lots of neat combos and moves to pull off. Decaping a zombie with a shovel then spinning around and turning another to dust with a powered kick is very satisfying.

Oh and hard lives up to the name. Don't attempt until you got the fighting system down and even then multiple oponents really dish it out.

  9. Well, here's the after thoughts(i've beaten it at work already).

Plays like a fuckin dream, you can combo for days, the combat engine was VERY well done(of course, thanks to James Goddard), the grahpics look really nice at almost all times, and the puzzles(sans the 'dreamers' realms/island/maze) are almost nonexistent.

I'd have to say that for the most part, this game is all action(when magic barriers appear, it means your either A)fighting demons or B)have to spray it down with holy water). Also, the ability to combine items is a bitchin feature that actually helps it out in the long run(hellfire bolts fucking own).

The voice clips, while annoying at some times(how many times do i have to hear "...Cmon, kick my ass" in one fight?); alot of the voice snippets and wise cracks are fuckin hillarious(keep in mind, i have never seen an episode of this show).

From stuff like "oh cmon, there's gotta be a switch around here somewhere, it's like a RULE" to "Go Buffy, Go Buffy!"(when buffy herself completes a REAL easy puzzle), it kept the game's comedic value farily high the whole way thru.

The layouts for the stages themselves are well done. With opening doors, saving other NPCs, or just finding ways to throw your enemy into a vat of something(or an exploding barrel, whatever works) this game keeps you guessing. There were alot of spots where I was going from place to place only to get jumped by a baddie i never saw coming. They toss those in at just the right places to give you that "yeah, i'm badass...but i aint tryin to get jumped" mentality while you play thru it.

Only problem i'd say i have with it is A)i glitched it out 3 times already, and B)the boss fights are very anti-clamatic. Also, anybody who is remotely spoiled by how easy the last few generations of games are, yer probably gonna get real pissed off at the end of the game.

Overall, i'm glad i got it. Wasn't expecting it to be badass...and buffy just slapped me in the face and proved me otherwise.

    Peace

P.S...if anybody has been following the "Arena Mode" controversy over at GameFaqs.com(in buffy's msg board area), come next months OXM...there should be an unlockable "vs" mode of sorts(this was verified by James Goddard himself) where you can battle it out with humans AND monsters. Guess there's a reason to hold onto this after ya beat it.

now if they'd only give buffy a schoolgirl/cheerleader outfit it'd be ON like a mufucka.

I'm at the Docks level now. Word of advice - don't try and go swimming Love the new weapon, hate the fact that you can throw vamps into the "deadly to Buffy" water but it doesn't do a damn thing to them I should hopefully have this game beaten soon. Castlevania HoD has been taking up too much of my time
