Xbox 360 II NPD: 360 Outsells Wii During Holiday Season

But Nintendo was not far behind. In spite of limited availability, the Wii sold 1.8 million units from its launch until December 25. Sony only moved approximately 750,000 units of the PlayStation 3, due to manufacturing problems and decreased demand. Over the holidays, IGN repeatedly found PS3s available at retailers while no Wiis were in sight. The price of a PS3 on eBay has also dropped to around its MSRP, while the Wii is still selling for over twice its retail price.

NPD expects to release complete sales data for the holiday season later this month.

  2. Reports are in from Japan tho, where Xbox 360 is number 67th best selling console behind Colleco Vision, Mega Man 2 for the tiger lcd system, and Super Mario Lopez Bros. plug and play system.

Yep. People who buy used panties from vending machines hate things that are good.

  4. Congrats MS. Unfortunately, though, limited Wii availability won't last long.
    No gnus is good gnus.

  5. The software gap is downright ludicrous. The funny thing is that MS' goal is marketshare, but even if they fail that, in conventional terms, they will more than likely have the most successful console of all time with the 360. It's a software-selling behemoth.

    Neither will the gameless honeymoon.

We need to get Spo in here so he can explain how his article from Glamour didn't push the Wii over the top.

Agreed. Western devs are already stepping up the plate, with formal announcements hitting over the upcoming months.

Yep, neither side has anything due out for the Wii any time soon.

BTW, you should bring back the Muppet avatar. It just fit so much better.

Remember last year when people were stabbing each other to get 360s? Microsoft could've sold as many as they put on shelves because they were the hot new thing at Christmas. This year it was the Wii. 6 months from now it'll be old hat - people will still buy it, but they won't be lining up for it anymore.
