Thread: Return Of The Sega Scream

  1. Return Of The Sega Scream

    segaworldweekly:

Sega put a smile on the face of Americans this week
with the return of the Genesis age Sega Scream ending
NFL 2K3 commercials. According to sources, the Sega
Scream will take a much more prominent role in
    attracting attention to Sega's titles.

  2. SEGA!!!

  3. Good stuff. That was probably their best marketing campaign ever. I also liked how they brought back the classic "Se-ga!" sound in Beach Spikers, that was nice
If my memory of her has an expiration date, let it be 10,000 years.

  9. Great... I'm definitely in the minority here (might be the only one too), but I always hated that annoying "SEGA!!!" scream.
In the other hand, the return of soothing "Se-ga~" sound bit in Beach Spikers was a welcome addition which I'd like to see in all future Sega games.

  10. I may be the only one who noticed, but Kurdt Cobain once did the "sega scream"- or something that sounds like it. The album Nevermind (you do own a copy, dont you?), the song "Territorial Pissings".

The very last utterance Kurdt makes before the song ends. I swear that he is screaming "SEGA!"

    ...

  11. Oh MAN! That's great! That SEGA scream shoulda never gone away. I'm also happy to read that the Se-Gaaaa sound is in Beach Spikers! I love turning on Sonic Genesis games and hearing that!

I wonder why Theatre of the Mind didn't go over well ...

  12. Only 2 years too late to do any real good...

As I have said before... Better late than never, EThugg.

  14. that's right! sega's only real hope is to get rid of am2, sonic team, and smilebit and replace them with the team that did bruce lee...sorry, as hard as i try, i can never resist...

  15. ... good thing it was in the 2K2 commercials...

  16. *all grinning and shit*
    Sweet dude.

Is the Se-ga in Beach Spikers all tinny like in the Genesis Sonic games ?? I love that chime

    "Better"

As in "Gotta find a way, better way."

Would be nice if it was a Sega scream though...

True, he is supposed to (and is) be saying "better". However, it still sounds almost EXACTLY like "Sega!". Try listening to it- the VERY last second of the track. It sounds almost exactly like the Sega scream...even if he is really saying "better".

  19. They should've retired the Sega scream after they used it in the Jet Grind Radio TV ad. That's about as good as it gets, right there.

    BIG GO!

They used it for a while with the DC and didn't accomplish diddly squat.

Is it me or does Sega suddenly have a hard on for everything they used to do well? Bringing back classic franchises and now the Sega scream, it's about time dammit!

...And it only took them just under 10 years to figure out what a winning formula pushing big-name titles with good advertising is.

Ugh...Every day I hate corporate Sega more and more...

  21. Sega brought back the Scream in an act of desperation near the end of both the Saturn and Dreamcast lifecycles. I guess they aren't desperate now... but... well... I don't really have a point here. I just wanted to bring that up.

Please take this as a bad joke:

If sega suddonly did have a hard on, but it happened to have four controller ports, who here would play it? Seriously, the next sega system launches but is in the shape of a hard on...
    Currently Playing:
    - Metroid Prime
    - GTA: Vice
    - Miss World '96 Nude

  23. I'd buy it. So would you.

The only thing that would make that better would be if a black screen with little white lettes said: "Produced by or under license from Sega Enterprises Ltd" preceded it.

And, well, if the game was on a Sega system.

Nonetheless, the Sega scream brightens my day every time I hear it, and it's a really strong, memorable trademark of Sega's - I think it's a great idea, bringing it back.

  27. I heard the Sega Scream tonight while watching TV. It didn't quite sound the same as before, but it was still neat.

They've been using the scream in Japan as well, only it's not much of a scream and the voice isn't set in concrete. The Sonic Advance commercial found here uses a child's voice, and this Virtua Fighter 4 commercial uses a man's voice.

  29. That Sonic Advance commercial was so....SONICAL!

  30. I may be the only one who noticed, but Kurdt Cobain once did the "sega scream"- or something that sounds like it. The album Nevermind (you do own a copy, dont you?), the song "Territorial Pissings".
Ugh. I have never owned that album and I never plan to. Nirvana was vastly overrated and promptly bested by other 'grunge' bands that had talent. Cobain was a waste of space is guilty of tainting 'rock' music making it the hell hole of crap we enjoy today.

Long live Rock and Roll. I can only hope the recent rise in the popularity of bands that play old fashioned rock instead of grunge influenced jibberish will continue.

Then again no one agrees with my musical opinions and this thread isn't even about music.

    Damnit! Offtopic again!!

    Um.....

I like the Sega chords and will always associate it with Sonic 1 and 2.

The scream was cool but I can't help but think SegaCD and with that comes painful memories of a young adults near life savings of $300 spent with only a handful of excellent games to show for it.

    It's too late to post stuff...must sleep/
