Thread: Game Over?

  1. The gaming industry, just like all other industries, will undergo a series of changes throughout it's life. Some favorable, some disenchanting. It's up to you as a gamer to roll with the punches. Evolve as your hobby/life evolves. Otherwise, this happens. You become bored. Things aren't as exciting because what you had grown acustomed to/fond of have all but disappeared to make way for the next big thing.

My advice to you? Force yourself to get over it. Force yourself into liking what the industry has to offer. Chances are, once you get over the first bump, you won't have to force yourself anymore because you'll begin liking it genuinely.

If you continue in this "disheartened because it's changed" type mind-set, you'll be bored with everything for the rest of your life.

  2. I went through the same thing not too long ago, acutally. I could barely get into anything. It lasted for at least 8 months.

Now, however, I'm completely back into games. Talk about bad timing, too... I'm just about to enter college and all I want to do is blow my money on games and play them all day.

The thing is, however, I don't give a flying finger about any new stuff. Hardly any new stuff, I should say. There still is Ikaruga and KoF 2001...

My advice is maybe you should check out some older stuff and follow that route. There are tons of older systems like the PC Engine that are waiting to be explored.

I personally only find interest in this type of stuff now. You might want to just take a short break and then explore of those older goodies...

    My Saturn is calling me.

  3. My $1.50:

If you aren't happy playing games, move on. Be a man of action. Get a hair cut, mow the lawn and sell your 32X.

  4. Gotta agree with Sleeveboy. And I have to wonder why some of you (OK, diffusion) are posting on this board. Just seems odd to be "99% done" with videogames and yet still post on a board populated by gaming enthusiasts.

It kills time during the day. Really, how much did I post last semester? Not that you would notice or anything, but many posts of mine dont really go into like how good a game is or what not. Besides, its not like you guys are lepers or me or anything. Ill still post here, I just dont share the same interests anymore.

And I play a few. I bought The Thing for PC and I like it just fine.

  6. So what if big(ger) buisness killed off pure gaming...just start playing lesser games by the boatload until you brainwash yourself into thinking they dont suck and actually find enjoyment in them....
(lots of brain surgeons on the gaming board)

I feel your pain pal. Im in the same boat..I can barely play games any more..cept for shmups and classics..and thats rare. You have 2 options..
    1. quit
If you 'really' hate games that much now, theres no other option. A break wont help
    2. quest for your lost love
You cant possibly have every game or system you ever wanted. Fill the gaps in your collection and see if it helps re-spark your flame.

The Dreamcast's death killed me as well, it brought back true gaming for a lot of jaded gamers. Those who werent affected actually (gulp) enjoyed the whole 32-bit era.

Anyways...good luck..though I gotta back up Ethugg's diagnoses as it pertains to Jet Set Future....I mean, come on now. That game was pretty wonderful...even if it wasnt as good as JGR.
