does anyone hate the part in the underground bunker in chp.2 where the enemies form several circles around you that close in??

it seems that slowdown plagues this part the worst, and it affects whether i die or not..
for example, i'll shoot an enemy to open the circle, and as i move out and around the tight circle, the game slows down considerably, but then speeds back up to full speed and i lose control straight into an enemy..
anyone know what i'm talking about?

Sorta, but I don't think slowdown is a concern. I usually "avoid" that part because I like to chain the ring of enemies before that sequence.

Yea those rings of enemies are a bitch, I blame it on the controller though, I can handle two rings but three rings is hard and four means death most times.

ikaruga was meant to abe played with a stick, i can't blame you for not liking playing it with a dc pad. seriously though, for vertical shooters, sticks are the only way to go

nah, trust me guys, there's a lot of slowdown in that one part w/ the rings of enemies..

also, click stick, you can combo the earlier ring of enemies fast enough to get the next group of rings also..

instead of waiting in the middle of the circle while chaining them, move down to the very bottom of the screen.. you can still chain them from there, and it'll take 1/2 as long..

although you may want to consider skipping the next group of rings anyway, since your survival through that is so unpredictable due to slowdown.. (and yes, partly due to the controller)

question for you guys..
is the saturn controller better for ikaruga??

I never get the second group of enemies, no... I do indeed wait in the middle. I'll try waiting at the bottom, perhaps... Thanks for the tip.

Back when I used to just kill off the first ring as quickly as possible, I would get the additional rings but I never really had trouble killing them. I dunno, I guess you have to just be quick. Don't be afraid to get real close.

You mean you're NOT using the SS controller? Man... hook yourself up with a TC3 and use the SS pad... it's the definitive way to play shooters.

About the joystick issue.. I have an Agetec stick.. Tried it once and quickly went back to the SS pad. Maybe if I put more time into it, I might like it... But the d-pad feels so precise and easy to control.

the above site has charts on the first 3 levels, lvl 2 looks weird however, the part i need help on(the wave of small enemies at the beginning the flies in circles) is not there. The site is also jap. If this get translated, that would really do good for ikaruga players. Just thought I'd share

Slowdown, shmowdown.

It's a tricky part to navigate, yes, but your survival rate will increase if you pay attention to the direction the drones are circling. Always escape the ring by moving in the same direction as the drones (e.g. if the drones are circling right, shoot a hole straight ahead and move forward and to the right), and you should be fine.

(I still die here 1/3 of the time, though.)

I'm surprised to see you say that, considering you said you always skip those rings in your earlier post.

Homing lasers won't work because they'll fuck up your chain.

I mentioned earlier that I used to always shoot to kill and not to chain [did not word it exactly like that, but you get the point] so I did indeed have to deal with the additional rings of enemies.

And sorry, yes... I should have said if you don't care about messing up your combo... Use the lasers...

the bad news is that it's insanely hard..
plus, i timed out on the chp. 3 boss (being too careful i think), so my score could've been a bit higher..

It's extremely painful when the game locks up during a high score run...

Chapter 1 : 3,483,520 (109 Max Chain)
Chapter 2 : 4,598,940 (129 Max Chain)
Chapter 3 : 2,756,120 (52 Max Chain)
Chapter 4 : 2,996,580 (53 Max Chain)
Chapter 5 : 1,356,810 (32 Max Chain)

it wasn't the greatest run, I've gotten much better chains on each level..but I did obtain Chapter 5 Practice!!! Oh, if anyone needs any tips or help I can probably help!
