Thread: How long till we have Virtual Reality in our homes?

  1. How long till we have Virtual Reality in our homes?

Remember in the early 90's when suddenly everyone was trying to get some sort of Virtual Reality thing off the ground, but failed. How long till someone gets it right and makes in affordable to have in the home? How long till the Sonys, Microsofts, and the Nintendos of the world make the Next Generation Virtual Reality machine thats not a Red and Black screen and can damage your eyes?
    Barf! Barf! Barf!

  2. Hopefully and most likely, never.

    Praise the lord.
3DO Serial No. 033693019 "Serial number brothers!!!......" *high five*

  3. Preach the word, brother padman.
So I forced my hands in my pockets and felt with my thumbs and gallantly handed her my very last piece of gum.

  4. the last thing i need is to strap on one of those stupid helmets, for an enchanted quest through lego-land in the privacy of my own home...

Virtual Reality used to be the shit, back before anyone got to try it.

Then everyone realized how stupid it was.

    Now, nobody cares anymore.

  6. The helmet and gloves schtick will be bypassed in favour of direct neuro input. Turns out it is surprisingly easy to fool the nervous system into feeling things that are not actually happening. Likewise, I expect you will be able to get an operation to have a jack implanted in the side of your head for direct video feed to the optic nerve within the next 20 years. It will happen before that, but that is about how long it will take for it to become mainstream and relatively inexpensive.

Wow, there's some closed-mindedness in this thread. Just because '90's VR was blocky and shitty doesn't mean future VR won't look and play a million times better. I'm sure many people looked at Pong and thought it was a lame fad that would never go anywhere.

  8. I think that about wraps it up for this thread

    Oh, and VR is stupid

    Amen!

Neo: I don't think people are being closed-minded at all. The point is that the "powers that be" have obviously realized that they shouldn't bother trying to market the concept to be in every home just for the sake of providing entertainment.

I think the only thing I hated about the whole "virtual" craze was when you had a number of games during this era playing up the theme and not being a real, well - you know. *thinks of Virtua Racing*

  10. Dammit people! Think of the possibilites!

For the last week I've been tossing around some way to get Rez into some 3D glasses while being controlled by VR gloves... God that would be cool...
