Flipping your T.V. on it's side

I am going to be getting Ikaruga, and some other shooters for Saturn, and want to be able to play TATE mode. I am just wondering what percautions and such I need to know about before I go ahead and do this.

I have a 21" Sony Trinitron T.V. , I've read that you should flip it on it's side (by the way, which side? left or right?) then wait 15 minutes and then turn it on.

Thankfully, my 17" VGA monitor flips without a hitch. I'll probably stick with that once Ikaruga comes in. It'll look crisp as hell.
