Thread: Playing import PSX games on an Import PS2?

  1. Playing import PSX games on an Import PS2?

Seeing as my PSX is dying, its mod chip is outdated, and import PSOnes are hard to find, I am considering getting an import PS2 mainly so I can play import PSX games.

I know some domestic PSX games have compatibility issues with the PS2 (Arcade Party Pack, for instance). Are there any import PSX games that don't run well (or at all) on the Japanese PS2?

Imports that I would be playing on my J-PS2:

    Tobal 2
    Ehrgeiz
    Real Bout Special: Dominated Mind
    SF Zero 3
    Bust a Move
    DDR 2nd-5th Mix

Also, I assume that domestic DDR dance-pads will work with an import PS2, correct?

  2. Those games work fine on a JPS2. And the DDR pads work fine on it as well. Happy gaming

  3. I managed to dig up this list on the net. I can only confirm that Namco Museum Encore does indeed give trouble(Major slowdown when playing Rolling Thunder). There are more games that have problems I am sure, but I don't know of any. You should be fine though.

    1. Not Treasure Hunter (Acty Art)
    2. Gradius Deluxe Pack (Konami)
    3. Aidoru Promotion -Suzuki Yumie- (Alyume)
    4. Toua Plan Shooting Battle (Banpresto)
    5. Oukyuu No Hihou: Tension (Vap)
    6. Wing Commander III (EA Square)
    7. Gallop Racer (Tecmo)
    8. Ongaku Tsukuuru: Kanadeeru 2 (Ascii)
    9. Monster Farm (Tecmo) - the Japanese version of Monster Rancher
    10. Dragonbeat (Map Japan)
    11. Susume! Kaizoku (Artdink)
    12. Tsuiridou Keiryu Kohen (Escot)
    13. Virtua Pachisuro V (Map Japan)
    14. Virtua Pachisuro EX (Map Japan)
    15. Konya Mo Senryobako! 2000 (Hearty Robin)
    16. Formula One 99 (SCE)
    17. Namco Museum Encore (Namco)

  4. I was considering getting a Japanese PS2 but decided against it, since I'm not really into anything Japanese for the system yet. I do, however, want to play PSOne imports, so I bought a modded system from Pacrappa. It cost less than half of the price of a Jap. PS2.

  5. Both Gradius Gaiden and Toaplan Shooting Battle have PS2 compatibility issues.

I think GG is fine up until the black hole level, but TSB won't run at all.
