Stop trying to justify the pure retardedness of not having the gun visible.
It's an imaginary gun.

Well that's like, your opinion, man.
He could just hold his empty hands out. You could maybe even flick off the enemy while running by them...
I like being able to see my gun, it lets me keep better track of what I'm carrying. One of my friends has been playing multiplayer Half-Life on PS2 lately and is ticked because they don't show the gun, and he can never remember if he's currently armed with the pistol or, say, the rocket launcher.
Only if you play UT.Some guns can get quite large and take up excessive screen real estate.
Mech, SOCOM tells you what gun you are carrying on the bottom left. Or you could just use 3P.
Eh, I like having my gun visible when playing a FPS. It helps me aim better, and I like knowing exactly what weapon I have chosen. Plus, I dig those crrraaazzy reload animations!![]()

Yeah, the reload animations in CS are fuckin awesome.

I haven't actually played SOCOM yet, so I don't know a lot of what it does and doesn't do. This is the only game I can think of where they would list the gun on-screen, but I wonder why not just show the gun? I suppose they probably have a reason just as stupid as the one for excluding kb&m support.Originally posted by Rich

And why would I want to use third-person? Is there a lot of platform-jumping?
And the sounds too. In CS I mean.

This is the least of Socom's problems. The biggest problem is that it's a terrible game. Then of course, Im against any FPS that makes you free look without a keyboard and mouse (With the exceptions being GoldenEye and Perfect Dark, the controler was perfect for it when you used the Turok-like controls). I got to play it this past weekend (Online only, single player seemed interesting though) and the people who play are more annoying than people on public Counter-Strike servers. I knew it was a bad idea to ship the game with headsets. You see, the reason why headsets worked so well in lets say, Counter-Strike, was because the people who were serious about it are typically the people who used headsets. With SOCOM, you're giving voice communication to every Joe Moron in Bum-Fuck, Wherever USA, so half the game you have someone yelling "YOU ALL FAGS......YOU'RE ALL GAY....HUHUHUHUH....FAGS.....GAYGAYGAYG" and you get the point.
Play wise? Eh...it does the trick for consoles, but whenever it comes to doing anything remotely complicated, or something that requires speed, I kept getting frustrated with the limitations of the controler. Its not like a mouse where you can whip it around in less than a second.
End rambling![]()
Play Guitar Hero //
Because 1P closed your view in too much, and you can see real reloading (mo cap suits from seals) from 3P.And in the bottom left where how much ammo you got and your clips, it's got the gun name. Besides, you only use one type of machine gun, and never use your handgun. So who needs to see it.. In 1P you don't see alot, so the gun would block half of your view..
SL1P you can change the options to be able to turn around within less than a second.
