Thread: Dating Sims in the US/Canadian market?

  1. Dating Sims in the US/Canadian market?

Its a genere that still has not even been tried here in the US- Dating Sims!!!! (the only possible exception is 3DO's Plumbers Don't Wear Ties)

Try as I might, I cannot think of one good reason why this genere would not work in the US market.

Would someone explain this to me?

  2. I'll tell you why I don't want to see them:

    Most of them suck balls.

I'm willing to bet that if some of you'd actually try out a game like TokiMemo, you'd realize that it's one of the crappiest games you've ever laid eyes on. And heck, if you already own it, I bet that if you knew wth the characters are saying, you'd hate it for their zombie-like personalities.

That's my theory about gaijin playing those games. And as for why the Japanese love the series... well... I have no theory aside from them having horrible taste.

But like the western market taste is any better. I'm actually disgusted to see Thousand Arms as a game that is appreciated on this board. It was an awful RPG (worst battle system ever), with all the awfulness of TokiMemo "dates" thrown in. A bunch of random garbage dialog with the characters that neither make the dates believeable, nor the characters. If the TA praise on this board is any indication, I guess date sims could do decently here. WTF do people see in it!?! It's like the worst game RED Company ever did, and sad it's the only one here.

Getting back to the topic, most of these are just poor excuses for games. We have enough crap on the market as it is.

I think unlike the Japanese most Americans don't have a problem getting laid.

  4. The premise of the genre appeals to me for its uniqueness and novelty. If a game company put their balls on the line and released one (for a system I actually owned), I'd buy it. I'm all for playing new types of games. You never know... something like that might actually do well here, but only if a Nintendo-esque approach is taken: One version for the guys, one version for the girls.

    **Generalization**

    USA: Human porn, human dates.
Japan: Artificial (i.e. picture not including humans) porn, artificial dates.

Sure, it's not really true, but it was an easy analogy to make.

Azure Dreams, Harvest Moon also has lite dating elements.

I'm for it. Come on Atlus or Working Designs localize one...

So Japanese people are less attracted to one another?

I think that the Japanese acually have more sex in their pop culture than Americans do. Considering their weird TV shows and vibrator-dispensing vending machines...

  8. Hmmm, I could see there being a change soon. Games that are released here keep getting odder and odder. Plus, look at games like the Sims Hot Date. People seem to love this game, so I could see it happening.

More than likely they would not want to deal with the lawsuits stemming from thousands of gamers locking themselves in their rooms and masturbating themselves to death.
