It's not nearly as bad as you're probably thinking it is.
I'll be getting Skygunner soon, and I was wondering about the slowdown. I know there is an option to scale back the graphics and make the framerate better. Is this slowdown cripling to the gameplay? Should I play the game first with the frame rate code or the regular version?

Boo, Hiss.
Cool. Slowdown doesn't bother me that much since I've been playing games since the NES. People go on about the slowdown in Halo or Mario Sunshine and most of the time I don't even notice it. Since pretty much every review of Skygunner I've read complains about the slowdown I put this thread up.

It only comes into play when you would expect it to come into play. There's a LOT of shit going on sometimes!

Slowdown or not, it's still an amazing game and one of my faves on the ps2.![]()
If I get a PS2, this is one of the first games I am going to get.

Take a look at:
Creeping Compound
It's a little pixel art site I just put up, it has a bunch more pixel pieces like my sig.![]()
The slowdown occurs pretty much in the same places every time, and sometimes for seemingly no reason at all. There is one area where the slowdown is indeed crippling to the gameplay: the dogfight during the last stage. Slowdown occurs for almost the entire battle and makes it a huge pain in the ass.
Play it first in the regular version, you'll be coming to grips with the game anyway, and it's absolutely gorgeous. This game is visually stunning, and the non-slowdown code locks the game at half the resolution, getting rid of much of the beauty. If you decide to play through and get good at it or for score, the non-slowdown code will be your friend.
Wonderful game anyway, I still love it. The intro amazes me every time, I love it so.
