Robotech help?!

I've been playing this level of protecting the Cat's Eye while it enters the atmosphere. Probably about 30 times now. The outcome always is either it's blown up or I blow up, no matter how many enemies I kill or how good my aim is. There's got to be something that I'm missing. Anyone have any suggestions on how to beat this level?

Well, I just beat it.

I would say how I did it, but I really didn't do anything different...except, now that I think about it, I used alot of decoys, which must've kept me alive longer. Good luck. On to the next level in Battlecry's roller coaster of difficulty, hehe.
