Planescape Torment.
I wanna know your opinion on which game had the best written storyline of all time. My vote goes to:
Final Fantasy VII: Yes, I know, the most cliche' of games to answer a story question with, but for me, the game's story just blew me away. Although there were some plot holes, some screwy translation, and a bunch of other little inconsistencies, overall the story was top-notch. The fact that *FF7 SPOILER AHEAD* the main love interest died so early *END FF7 SPOILER*(please don't bring up PS2 here) and the notion of actually fighting the game's villian for the final boss battle also kicked butt. There were a lot of original aspects, some of which that are still copied today(are you listening LoD?). The only major flaw in the story is the ending; it's not as horrific as MGS2's tourist reel of Manhattan, but a lot of things weren't resolved/understandable. Besides that, though, pure gaming nirvana.
Planescape Torment.
Vagrant Story.
Runners-up: Valkyrie Profile, Radiant Silvergun.

Torment and System Shock 2 are a couple of my favorites in that area, and Vagrant Story is up there as well.
FFVII or T probably. Cop out answers, I know, but I like 'em
Also way up there is Parasite Eve - I just like the whole package, from story to setting.
Tales of Phantasia. Some didin't like the conventional subject matter, but I thought the characters were really well written. Also Shenmue and Shenmue 2 have the beginnings of what I feel will likely be one of the best stories in gaming, but we have to wait and see.
That's what I like about it. It's the perfect story for a shooter, and it's got a brilliant little twist at the end.Originally posted by burgundy
I don't see what's so great about the Silvergun story. It's nice and artsy, but it's so basic.

Metal Gear Solid 1 or perhaps Resident Evil.
