well stated
after hearing that it was going to be the same ep1&2 as gamecube (plus added keyboard support), I put a little thought into what advantages could be made from here over nintendo's PSO.
1) updated server and game support. meaning that when the site updates, there may be patches or new additions to the game that will step on cheating and make it more enjoyable, while NGC would have you require a new disk (and another $50 investment)
2) there may not be a limit (a big one anyways) to the number of characters you have saved on your HD, meaning that unlike nintendo, you'll be restricted to swapping memory cards and likely have the 4 player games limited on 2 cards (meaning if you have 1-2 more characters on other cards you want to play, you're screwed as you can't swap them between the cards)
3) more room for events/downloads can be made, from which you can access quickly and hopefully share between other online users, while I think this may be possible, it'll be broadband from what I figure.![]()
also, while people were talking about how the system may have a few security holes, for the most part they can be patched to cover the user's games and data, but there's also ways they can catch and fix any problems in relation to cheating or destroying character files as opposed to having require a new disk (throw another $50 out nintendo fan-boys). I mean, look at the way characters were either NOL'ed or destroyed outright on the DC (it hurt like hell every time), this would make a more ideal platform for the game to be played on because any updates/patches can work like a security blanket rather then having you paying through the nose just for another coffee coaster!
overall, I'll have to see what both games will look like when they're out before I make up my mind. I just see so many areas that make the game more preferred on XBOX then playing through nintendo's ballgame.![]()

MK2 on XBLA plz - let the unfolding of gameplay begin!!
VOICE. You all keep forgetting VOICE. It is the single best thing about Xbox Live.
Also, all of the users will be on Broadband, guarenteed. This means the special events and downloadable stuff can be MASSIVE.
PLUS, people's guild cards will be able to attach to the friends list. So if you meet somebody REALLY cool in PSO, you can invite them to play Unreal Championship or whatever else.
It really is no contest. I could go on for hours.
I'd imagine it would be nice playing in a game with people you know, but anytime you have to be in a lobby would be pure torture.Originally posted by Master

well gongos, it doesn't seem like getting a game right away is all that important considering how many games I'm behind on enough as it is. But awhile back when companies like capcom, konami, etc etc started releasing multiple ports of so many games, I've decided in my best interest it'll be worth not having the game unless you know it's to be the ONLY version available, which has sadly become the small minority.
From what I've said on the gamecube's memory cards, everything we've seen on the dreamcast (i.e. sharing card-lists between characters, no file-swapping for character backups) are likely to be expected, even it you can save up to 4 per card this time. I haven't got the best idea of how M$ will make the memory work for XBOX, but with all that harddrive space, it wouldn't be such a bad idea for unlimited saves while each having a backup, HD or serverwise (which would be a good idea)
I don't deny that cheaters destroyed diablo and PSO, but likely with PSO's case, they NEED a cheat device and with regular updating, there can be a source code check that'll detect any new altered data (in relation to gameshark, codebreaker and so on), from which can be logged in the server, issue both warning and temp bans (perm if they abuse it) and further cover any holes that were exploited. Maby if they even look after the sites that have the balls to post these codes, they can nail shut all the holes from there too.
Now that sounds crazy about the downloads that have to be paid for. If they're asking $.25 per DL, then it should be related to anything extra we might have some use for, not just fixes and such (which would be a low move on their part). But I have to ask you this question, what would you rather have? New gaming additions to your current title? or would you prefer buying the game/add-on again for $50? I still want to see how this'll work out, but you'll know my answer for this one.![]()
In case any of you were wondering how long I'll be willing to wait, well I'd say that by november (unless something goes wrong), I'll be making my plans for faster internet servece. But I won't be getting into PSO again until I actually have time to play it. (my last 3 month sub went down the tube with barely a full week worth of play time) So I'll sadly give it till Jan/March of 2003 before I'm ready to dive in. oh well...
oh, as for the release date, heck how the hell do I know?!![]()

Unless a cheat patch can be stored on a GC mem card I'd say you're right.
Plus you'd get to play with me!
(cut to footage of microsoft stock bottoming out)
I'm assuming that the Japanese release date of January is going to be affected by the Gamecube version's flaws and the time it will take to fix them... but let's hope not.
