  1. Battletoads

    I always wished that Rare would update Battletoads on N64, but do they even own the rights anymore? Or is it Tradewest? Where are those guys anyway?

    Regardless, I sadly have never beaten the original. The SNES semi-sequel I did beat countless times though, great stuff. I was thinking it'd be nice to see an XBox revival, but again, I wonder who owns the license.

  6. I think the majority of Battletoads games were sold to ignorant parents who though they were buying a TMNT game.

    I was at Rare's site about 3 weeks ago and they had a list of all the games Rare made. Now you go to the site and you can see the first game coming out for the X-Box, from Rare. It's called Kameo. Check it out! www.rareware.com

  11. Hm..Tradewest last I checked owned it. Unless I am out of synch, I don't believe Rare is even in the equation. Speaking of Tradewest, I miss Double Dragon.

  12. Battletoads games had such insanely hard gameplay at times that I would not dare touch a new one.

    The SNES one was especially nasty in that strange level where that rat chases you on those rails. The frustration factor made me take the game and throw it against the wall. It still worked after that, unfortunately.

    Yeah, right, except the whole legally binding part of public elections verses the "fun stuff to laugh about on coffee break" nature of online petitions.

    Well, that's true for the most part, but isn't part of the reason we ended up getting Final Fantasy Chronicles last year was because the gaming community as a whole, particularly online, kept continually pushing Square to give us Final Fantasy IV after it was excluded from FF Anthology the year before, and Chrono Trigger so many of the Chrono Cross fans could get the requisite backstory they missed out on during the SNES days?

    I'm sure the online petitions played a part in ultimately getting us those two games. So while EXTREMELY rare and unlikely, they do seem to do SOME good every once in a while.

  16. AFAIK, Rare still owns the Battletoads license. They made another Battletoads game that EA published in the arcades in the late 90s. This was a weak attempt at EA penetrating the arcade scene but since the machine/game did poorly they quickly halted all future arcade endeavors. And it is because of the poor performance of the arcade Battletoads that Rare would most likely never do another one. It seems the public is over the whole Battletoads phenomenon. Quite unfortunate because the last arcade game was REALLY good (maybe even the best yet) but still hardly anyone's played or even seen it. You never know though. Maybe Rare will surprise us. Stanger things have happened.

    Yeah, I played it. It wasn't half-bad.
    Still, that was one hell of a violent game.
    Kicks that decapitate enemies?

    I think there should be another Battletoads-Double Dragon. THAT was a good game.

    Bleh, BT and DD was weak. You were either a Toad or a Dragon. Totally generic.

    The BT arcade game may have been graphic as hell, but it did away with all the racing and platforming crap and delivered true side-scrolling action. The only thing that they need to fix are the damage levels. A few hits and your toad would be near death, and the flies barely recharged you.

    Yes, it really is a great game. It was one of the first boards I looked for when I got into arcade PCBs and I had it in my friend's arcade for awhile where it made quite a bit of cash.

  23. Thanks for the link, I can't believe I missed that article, I always enjot reading Steve Kent's stuff.

    Aha so the possibility of a sequel somewhere down the line is not out of the question. As much as I like their 3D platformers, I sure as hell wouldn't want to see them going that route with a seuquel.

    Man I almost forgot about the arcade game, I think I played it once at some arcade in Taiwan. I remember there were even rumors of it going to 32X.
