So I was reading the latest issue of Game Informer and they've got a big Sims blowout, and a story on SimCity 4000. Got me thinking about SimCity and how much I liked it.
I only played the first one, many years ago. I never really played it correctly (turned disasters/crime off, never had any roads to avoid traffic problems, etc. I was 12, gimme a break).
I've played other Sims: SimAnt, SimFarm, SimLife, and didn't really like any of them. They all seemed to be just cashing in on the Sim property and didn't quite have that simple balance that SimCity had.
Anyway, what's the deal with SimCity x000? I'm thinking of tracking down 3000 and giving it a go. But I wonder if my memories are rose tinted or what. Any SimCity fans here?
The Sim games are great, but you eventually get tired of them and every time a new one comes out it is basically the same game. I remember when SimCity 3000 came out and I expected it to be mindblowing since SimCity 2000 seemed to be a big upgrade from the from the original, but for some reason it wasn't. If you liked th original SimCity, you'll find 3000 is be very good, but it plays essentailly the same way.
The whole fun of the series is watching your town grown into a large metropolis and taking care of it. Just remember that your city doesn't have to be perfect. I tend to like sim and virtual pet type of games, but they definitely aren't for everyone. As for the entire Sim series I think SimCity, the Sims, and SimTower were the most enjoyable.
