Thread: Unreal Tournament 2003

  1. UT2K3 is quite dissapointing to me. I gave it a favorable review but put it down quite soon after. It just doesnt click like the first one did, and is ultimately a poor sequel to a classic action game. Epic just didnt try enough to push action gaming forward. They took the easy road out and ended up delivering more of the same.

I agree. I don't have a deep familiarity with UT or UT2k3, but I have played both of the games quite a bit casually. Nonetheless, I really don't think UT2k3 adds very much to UT. I think the adrenaline stuff is poorly executed and is just kind of silly. Much like UT, UT2k3 would be perfect for pick-up deathmatch or CTF games, but anything beyond that and I think you'll be disappointed.

  3. This game deserves GOTY for the worst in game menus.

  4. Chux: Great map! Thanks.

Detractors: If this were any other game that lacked UT2k3's extensive scripting and customization system, I'd agree with the detractors here. However, it is not another game. The beauty of UT2k3 is if you don't like it, you can certainly change it -- and someone is probably already working on a mod to make it play like the first one.

    Josh's grade: A-

  5. Chux: Awesome map. Simply awesome.

In regards to UT2k3, well, I think my review covered my thoughts on that (as it should). I do wish they had worked on Bombing Run more to make it more expansive and tightened up (figure that one out ), because that's the main reason UT2k3 is even worth playing. Without it, Q3 is still better.

Eh. Ultimately, right now, the game is pretty much just Unreal Tournament with poor in-game menus, a half-assed "sports" angle, prettier graphics, slightly lamer weapons, and unoriginal/uneven level design. Adrenaline is take-it-or-leave-it, and Bombing Run is just another game mode, which means some will like it and some wont (I dont, I much prefer the old UT Domination).

Maybe somebody is working on some earth-shattering mod that will really make the game amazing, but what's the likelihood of that happening? There really hasnt been an earth-shattering mod since Counterstrike. Most UT mods were just clones of Quake ones.

Epic really couldve done a lot more with the game! Yes, if some amazing mod comes out that will change my opinion of it. What made Quake so good was a lot of the mods. Same with Half-Life. And Quake 2 (Jailbreak, Q2Pong). But, until then, my opinion isn't changed.

  7. Too true... but why can't people like two games?

  8. All I have played is Unreal Championship in XBox, and all I can say is "Worst Menus In the History Of Time" Why not let me just select 4-Player?! Why not just let me Pick a character with out making a profile?! If im not playing online don't fucking try and make it feel like I am playing online! Stupid game.
    Barf! Barf! Barf!
