Thread: Phantom Fighter

    Phantom Fighter

While the NES had no shortage of martial arts-themed games, Pony Canyon's Phantom Fighter was unique enough to be memorable. It was part adventure and part fighting game.

The fighting system was typical 8-bit simplicity(punch, kick and jump) but the animation was far smoother than average for its time.

The game got repetitive after a while but I liked it although I wouldn't consider it a classic. I haven't played it in a long time but I plan on adding it to my collection.

This site has some pics and gives a better description than I can.

    Anyone like this game?

  2. I never played it, but I still remember the ads for it which showed up all over the place. I always liked the guy's hat.

Whatever happened to FCI, anyway? They published a few cool games over here on NES...Zanac, Ultima, (Golgo 13?), and then just vanished.

  3. I loved the game, my favorite 2D fighter on the NES (not that there were many to choose from). A very fun game and I always had a ball learning new skills. Will definitely have to give it another play one of thse days
    omg TNL epics!

Yeah, what did happen to FCI? I can't think of anything they published post-SNES.

Golgo 13 was a Vic Tokai game.

  5. wow. I remember this game(I didn't until I saw the pics, hence the "wow"). Thought it was pretty cool, but didn't get to spend much time with it. I suppose I'll be grabbing a copy as well~

That's right. They're #2 on the "whatever happened to?" list. Didn't they publish Criticom or something else abominable?

Maybe the WCW games were the final nail in the coffin...

I will always be thankful that Vic Tokai released Shinobi Legions domestically. Criticom, I'll try and forget.

Vic Tokai is still around but I think they mostly do non-gaming stuff hence their name which stands for Valuable Information and Communication.

  10. I like Phantom Fighter. Reminds me a lot of Karateka.

Last thing I recall of FCI's was that Exaclibur 2055 game on the PS1.
