I'm not a big fan of either.
After reading way too many posts from people who prefer the ultra-generic pseudo-American looking Sonic of today which I can't stand, I have to make this poll.
Which Sonic artwork do you like more?
Old
New

I like the old Sonic more, with the new one they just seem to be going too much for that faux Gen X attitude which is both outdated and annoying as hell.
The spikes also look more lethal in the old design, in the new one, they look more like hair, really. Not menacing in the least![]()
omg TNL epics!
I like the new, although my favorite shots are from SA2.
And if anything, the original looks more psuedo-American, evoking the sort of style that old black and white American cartoons had.
I admit that "new" Sonic doesn't look bad in polygon form. It's the handdrawn still pictures and the Advance games where I don't like the look.
I prefer "classic" Sonic. The new one is just way too "extreme".
Hmm, this one is a hard choice. It's like they aren't even the same character. When I see the old Sonic design, I think of the days of Sonic 1 on Genesis, but when I see the new one, I think of the 3D Sonic games on Dreamcast.
Ah well, I guess I like the older design more. It's just so simple and classic.
Old, definitely.
Did I inspire this thread?
I prefer the new look - Sonic was always supposed to be an edgy character, but the look never really portrayed it IMO. Actually, I like the old Sonic's "attitude" better, but I like the new look.
I like the stills, though I can agree with you on the sprites.Originally posted by NeoZeedeater

New. Definitely the new. Like Burgundy said, his old design didn't do the character much justice in looking 'Edgy" or in the "'Tude" level. The new look definitely lets Sonic look cool when saying cool stuff.
Plus, the old design looks to cartoony to me. Cartoony in a cute Pokemon way, if you catch my drift.
