Thread: Ikaruga [DC, GC, XBLA, PC]

  1. this is a post.

  2. Teddman has a extensive review of the game somewhere in the Ikaruga thread. Well thought out, weighs the pros and cons of the game.
Thanks, Neo. I actually think that my huge Ikaruga review never did make it into this behemoth thread, as I made a separate topic for it about three months ago (which I asked to be soaked up by this thread eventually, but it may have escaped). I did pump quite a bit of money into that arcade copy of Ikaruga and played the entire game through almost twice. For research purposes only of course

I like the Stickycarpet review linked on the previous page too, good description of the mechanics though it doesn't cover the full game. If it's alright with everyone (and my review is in fact not in this haystack somewhere), I'll repost my Ikaruga impressions tonight so it's part of this historic thread. It is pretty big, complete with pics and directions to the only known arcade that has an Ikaruga machine in the U.S. (City of Industry, CA)

If you look back on this huge thread, I never lost faith that this game was coming out for DC!

  3. Does anyone else find it irritating that theres some kind of mechanical voice counting (or something like that) when you destroy enemies?
Maybe the problem can be solved by lowering the SE, but that takes away from that good explosion feeling you get.

  4. i think it's kinda cool, although it detracts from the in-game music, and i can see how it could eventually get annoying..
i wouldn't trust the audio from those movies though.. what you'll get running through your own speakers will probably sound much better..

and there's a music test mode..
MK2 on XBLA plz - let the unfolding of gameplay begin!!

  5. The mechanic voice counting that I remember occurs when you need to continue. Instantly upon your last death, the machine begins, "Ten, niiine, eight, sev-on, six..." You'll hear that A LOT if you play the arcade version upon running out of lives

  6. according to the sound coming from the footage of ikaruga, the mechanical voice also chimes in during gameplay after each combo you get..

It says things that sound like either it's counting up from some number, or the occasional something that sounds like "excellent" as you rack up combos..
but for all i know, it's probably saying something completely unrelated in japanese..

If I remember correctly from when I played it it was from the chains. It counts them. While in Japan, I just could not keep on pumpin coins into the machine knowing that I was going to eventually purchase the game any way. I have been playing a lot of Radiant Silvergun in preparation for the arival of this game. The only down side to this is that it makes me realize how shallow Ikaruga is in comparison with Radiant Silvergun... Not that there is anything wrong with that. I like them both.

  8. According to Gamefront, people ordering Ikaruga via D-Direct will get a Ikaruga postcard.

    Whee.

EDIT opps, didn't realize this was covered.

Honestly, I already knew/assumed all of that, and that's exactly what I want/expected. I don't think any of that stuff makes it any less of a game, and if that kind of thing really bothers you, it probably wasn't for you anyway.
The entire point of the post was to add a reality check to the hype around Ikaruga. I remember back when REZ came out alot of people loved it and just as many people seemed unimpressed. Instead of going into the game expecting a trippy Panzer game with great atmosphere, many expected to be blown away what with the hype the game had generated here. *-neo

Useless (yet funny) find in Ikaruga

If you survive a stage without firing a single shot, and your max chain is 0, then you get the 'humiliating' rank of...

    DOT EATER!!
